AP Studio: Successful Seniors!

A big congratulations to the 15 senior art students who completed the AP Studio Art portfolio this year! They worked extremely hard and deserve recognition.

The class of 2012 also deserves recognition for the number of art school acceptances they received. Among the American university acceptances: Pratt (3), SVA (3), Otis (2), SCAD (3), MICA, SAIC, and CCA (2). Among the Indian university acceptances: Shristi (2) and MIT Institute of Design. Two students have enrolled at Pratt, one at Otis, one at Shristi, and one at MIT Institute of Design. A number of students are enrolled at liberal arts colleges where they hope to continue to take art and a few are taking Gap years.

The Art Department wishes them the best of luck as they start new adventures!

Concentration
The central idea of my concentration focuses on emotions and feelings in faces depicted through black and white photography. I feel that faces are artistic in themselves as they come in all shapes and sizes, uniquely portraying their own emotions and feelings.  By using black and white, sepia, and cyan tints, I hope to create a nostalgic and refined mood in the work. I am also exploring the many subtleties of what a “face” is considered in both human and non-human faces.

Concentration
The central idea of my concentration portfolio is the properties of glass. Glass is at one angle transparent, but at another angle it can reflect the light and shape or even distort an image. These properties of transparency, reflection and distortions not only could be used to create visually unique and interesting paintings, but also can be mixed with different ideas and objects in order to show different angles or hidden perspectives of the subjects and thus recreate them.

Concentration
One word to describe the central idea of my concentration would be pattern. The idea of playing with the same pattern throughout each piece is something that fascinates me. The reason I chose patterns as my concentration is because I think it is interesting to repeat something in order to create a new image.
