Studio 2: Mythology

The Studio 2 class has spent Quarter 3 working on a Mythology series. Drawing and Painting: Surrealism

After developing the technical drawing skills of 1- and 2-point perspective, the Drawing and Painting students were ready to show some creativity. Looking at examples of surrealist painters such as Salvador Dali, Renee Magritte, and Max Ernst, the students created their own surrealist landscapes with acrylic paint on paper. The requirements of the project were to utilize either 1- or 2-point perspective, use a pair of complementary colors, and incorporate gradients. The students produced some amazing artwork!

Studio 2: Abstract Monotypes

In the midst of a Quarter-long project on mythology, the Studio 2 class took a break and spent a Friday afternoon creating monotypes. Monotypes are a form of printmaking in which the artist paints directly on a non-absorbent surface and then transfers the image onto paper. In Studio 2, we created these monotypes by using toothbrushes, painting knives, fingers, and paintbrushes to apply poster paint on glass. These beautifully expressive monotypes were created in about 1 minute each!
