Meet the Teachers

The Woodstock Art Department has grown! Read below to learn about Woodstock's art teachers.

Nan Onkka, Head of Department: This year Ms. Onkka is teaching Design, Digital Media, Studio 1, and AP Studio Art. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art at St. Olaf College in Minnesota and an Art Education teaching certificate through the state of Minnesota. She first came to Woodstock in the fall of 2008 and has been working at Woodstock since July 2009. Throughout her time at Woodstock, she has taught a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and digital media to students ranging from Grade 7 to Grade 12. Her own artwork focuses primarily on drawing, painting, and printmaking. Apart from teaching and creating art, she enjoy traveling, hiking, canoeing, and cooking.

Katie Erickson: Ms. Erickson joined Woodstock in July 2011 and is thrilled to be a part of the Woodstock Art Department staff. She received her BA in art from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa with a certificate in art education. She splits her time between junior and senior schools, teaching third and fourth grade art as well as Grade 9 Art, Sculpture, Drawing and Painting, and Design. Along with art making, she enjoys cooking and trying new things.  

Rebecca Layton: Ms. Layton received her BA in English from Barnard College, and her MFA in Fine Art from Hunter College, both in New York. She has taught Art and Art History for many years in New York, Barcelona, and now here in India. In 2010-2011, she did research through a Fulbright Senior Scholar grant on block printing, mainly in Rajasthan but also throughout other parts of India. She has also received artist fellowships in Indonesia, Austria, as well as New Mexico, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Wyoming in the US. Her passion is textiles, but she also enjoys cooking, photography, and illustration. At Woodstock she is teaching Grades 1 and 2, Grade 5, and Grade 6 in the Junior School, and Grade 7 and 8, as well as AP Studio Art in the Senior School.
