AP Studio: Zarka's Drawing Portfolio

Breadth

Concentration
The central idea of my concentration is a single Urdu word – Mashallah. In Kashmiri culture, the word “Mashallah” is generally uttered as a prayer to shield one’s beauty and fate against the “evil eye.” This word may also symbolize the fear of loss and the human endeavor to persevere against external forces. Through my work, I have explored the idea of words acting as weapons and have used Urdu calligraphy in all my pieces to represent the universality and power of the spoken word.
