Design: Indian Folk Art Printmaking

For the final project of the semester, the Design class researched Indian Folk Art. Inspired by madhubhani, mehendi, block printing, and other types of folk art, each student created their own unique design and then carved out a linoleum print. They were challenged with printing with paint rather than proper printmaking ink, yet still they produced some excellent prints! After printing regular prints, they learned about reductive printing in which they carve more away from the linoleum and print on top of an existing print to create a two-color print.
