Sculpture: Masks

After studying masks from around the world, the Sculpture students were equipped with plaster bandages and let loose. They utilized multiple methods for creating masks from plaster and were allowed to create their masks in any style.

Design: Conservation Collages

The Design class most recently completed collages on the theme of conservation. While most students chose environmental conservation, there were a few examples of cultural conservation. After choosing a theme, they used mixed media to create a collage. Finally, they captured their collages on camera and created digital images with Adobe Photoshop.

Studio 1: Cover Design

To finish off the school year, the Studio 1 class entered a competition to create the cover for next year's assignment book. Using Adobe Illustrator, they were asked to create a design with only one color. The winner has yet to be announced! (The images below are a spread of both the front and back covers.)

Drawing and Painting: Texture Collage

As a capstone project for the year, the Drawing and Painting class created mixed-media texture collages. The goal of the project was to learn the difference between implied texture and actual texture and to create an artwork that displayed both types of texture. They were given a composition to work with, but had the freedom to work with any medium and any style.

Sculpture: Slab Buildings

The final project with guest artist Nova Cassan was constructing a building out of clay slabs. The students threw their slabs by hand and pieced them together to create a unique building.

Drawing and Painting: Abstract prints, collages, and paintings

Taking a break from working realistically, the Drawing and Painting class explored abstract expressionism in a three-part project. First, they created monotypes by applying paint on glass and then pressing the paper onto the glass. Next, they took three of their monotypes and collaged on top. Finally, they took a vignette of one collage and recreated it in paint. Overall, the students had a lot of fun being expressive!

Design: Product Design

Continuing our studies of logos and brands, the Design students were asked to create a new product for retail. With their designs, they created two drawings: one of their invented product and its features and another of a magazine advertisement.

Sculpture: Clay Busts

With guest artist Nova Cassan, the Sculpture students created mini clay busts. With only a few tragedies in the bisque firing, the surviving busts are fired and ready to be glazed.

Design: Menu Design

After learning the basics of Adobe Illustrator, the Design class was asked to design a menu for a restaurant or cafe. In their menu, they were required to design a logo and arrange the menu items. The menus look great - anybody want to open a new restaurant in Mussoorie?
